The details are still rather vague at the moment, however, Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter announced that a ne Twitter “firehose” deal is coming to Google next month. He also was quoted as saying that the goal is to get people to consume content and engage with that content whether they log in or not
By giving Google access to their audience of more than 500 million people who visit each month, it will give Twiiter a better advantage whether the user is logged in or not.
Twitter and Google already had a firehose deal from 2009 to 2011, however, this expired leaving only a portion of the tweets indexed by the search giant. FYI, Twitter is already available in Apple’s Spotlight. You can now search hashtags with Spotlight (Cmd + Space Bar in OS X and swipe down on the home screen in iOS).
We will keep you updated on this story in the weeks to come. In the meantime, if your business doesn’t have Twitter yet, now is a good time to get moving.
